In the Netherlands, a country known for its social welfare systems, thousands still find themselves without safe shelter each year due to domestic violence, sudden eviction, economic crisis, or personal catastrophe. Bouman Stichting’s Emergency Shelter program provides more than just a roof—we offer a safe, dignified, and supportive environment where individuals and families can find stability during their most vulnerable moments.
Operating 8 emergency shelter locations across Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Utrecht, and The Hague, our program serves over 1,200 individuals annually with immediate, trauma-informed shelter services. We believe that everyone deserves a safe place to sleep, and that emergency shelter should be the first step toward permanent housing—not a long-term solution. Our staff are trained in crisis intervention, trauma response, and housing navigation to ensure each guest receives personalized support from day one.
