Bouman Stichting was established in 1987 by Gerrit and Anna Bouman, who witnessed firsthand the growing gap between wealth and poverty in their Amsterdam neighborhood. What began as a simple soup kitchen serving 30 meals a week has grown into a comprehensive human services organization reaching thousands across the Netherlands.

Our founders believed that poverty is not an individual failing but a systemic issue requiring both immediate relief and long-term solutions. This dual approach remains at the heart of our work today.

Over three decades, we’ve evolved from emergency response to pioneering innovative models like our social supermarkets, mobile outreach units, and integrated support programs that address the root causes of poverty.

Today, with offices in Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Utrecht, and The Hague, we continue to adapt to new challenges while staying true to our founding principle: every person deserves dignity, opportunity, and a path to stability.
